Info Request: Large Switchblade

Post by novice »

I picked this up yesterday. It is ~17 1/4" long with lined bolsters, the scales appear to be walnut, and the mainspring is polished. The bolsters are quite strong, squeezing across the ears as hard as I am able does not deflect them at all. The blade is ~3/16" across the spine and the lock-up is tight and surprisingly fast. The only marking is "Rostfrei". I got it and a number of other knives all from the 80s as one collection. What can anyone tell me about it? I am very curious about the approximate age. 80s seems about right for the darkening of the brass and some spotting on the polished parts of the blade.

They were made from the 60s to current time. Angelo made them. Listed as 18" when offered for sale.....I have seen them sold for $100 to $250 depending on the time and area sold in....What else do you want to know?

Thank you, that is what I was looking for. That explains why I couldn't find anything on it as I was searching for 17 1/4". I don't know the makers that well, what company is Angelo's?

One of Angelo's company is 3knives.com. Also, AGA, AKC, and Fox knives.

BTW Very cool knife!

Excellent, thanks!

Just got another email from the guy, he has second one!

:P

From the pic it looks like it has rosewood scales. There are also a couple bird head switchblades with that strange blade engraving. They do have stag scales and the blades look polished rather than mill finish. I'd guess that puts them in the older rather than newer camp. Prices are right which is good.

Some bird styles do come on stag and wood with brass or stainless bolsters. The engraving is common on these and many don't have it. I have one with the swirling design. Stain vs polished isn't always a sign of old or new.

Here's a couple of photos of my knife with brass and wood. ImageImage

Agelo Campolin, Sr.'s company is Falcon Knives. He had nothing to do with Fox.
Angelo Campolin, Jr. owns 3 Knives, AKC.

Hi Bill,
Thanks for correcting me. I had a senior moment.
