who made this one?

Post by Milu »

As this is a first post, hello to everyone.

I have an auto in my collection I am curious about. It looks like a typical 3inch blade black handled stiletto. Instead of the usual hole in the blade it has a rectangular slot about a quarter inch high by 5/8 inch long. This also serves to lock the knife open. To close one presses the handle button to free the blade. It opens with a gorgeous double click.
I bought it in Verona, Italy some 20 years ago so I would guess it's from Maniago. The blade is marked rostfrei and is ok quality.

I've never seen another auto with this system so I'm curious about maker and history.

Thanks

Never seen one with a slot that big. The French still make some with a much smaller square "hole" [!/8" by 1/8"].

When you have it half way closed do you see what appears to be a channel running through the riccaso into where the locking pin is located? Some Button locks used this channel locking system which is quite strong while others like rizzuto used the extended tab to lock the blade.

"Why is it that Stand UP Guys seem to be a dying breed?"

Because we get so old we'd rather sit.

Your knife is a button open/close model made through the late 1970s. They are well made knives and are of the "transitional" style.
