1950's 13" Coricama Red Dot Picklock Kris Blade

Post by morrissey »

Hello, this is my first post. I have been collecting stilettos for almost 20 years, however I was never able to find a genuine 1950's picklock, and the on-line prices for them have always been a bit out of reach. Yesterday I stumbled upon my Holy Grail in an antique shop in California. I saw that there was a non-automatic transitional stiletto in one of the the cabinets, along with some other old knives. I asked to look at it and I told the gentlemen at the store that I collect switchblades. Shortly after that he informed me that he had some switchblades under the counter. He takes out this velvet lined cloth holder and inside there are a couple of automatics. One of them is a 1950's 13" inch Coricama Red Dot Vintage Picklock with a kris blade.
I wanted to consult with my fellow stiletto devotees re any information you might have on this piece, ie- if it is early 50's or mid 50's. The knife is in Great Condition, with solid lock up, and a straight thick 5 mm back spring. I still can't believe I found this jewel. :D

I would say it's late 1950s. The red dot is painted-earlirer ones had a red plastic inlay. Overall shape is indicative of a later knife.
Scales are cow horn.

Thank you Dan! I appreciate that! :D

Yeah, that was the only italian picklock stiletto he had. He did say that he had some more automatic knives in his personal collection, so I gave have him my contact info so that he can contact me if he wants to sell any of them. We'll see what happens.

I know that this particular Coricama is very valuable. Any idea as to a ball park figure as to what it might be worth?

Also, I saw another knife site (sharper deals) that had links to the Atlanta Blade Shows. Have you ever been to one of these? The reason I ask is because I saw pics of collector with cases full of 50's picklocks and I was wondering if these knives are sold at these events or if they are only on display for fellow collectors.

Cheers,

-Tom

Great score and welcome to our home away from home.
I agree with Belmont800, you can easily get close to $1000 for a fine example as yours.

Razor-

Thank you so much! :)

Yeah, it sounds like I really struck gold with this one. And the kick on this knife is very strong. A real Classic Beauty. I still can't believe I stumbled onto it.

Cheers,

-Tom

Just outstanding. Stuff like that never happens in Missouri. Gorgeous tang stamp too.
I love the kriss blade on a vintage stiletto. Good job mate.

I like the Coricama better than Latama, seems to be more rare at least in certain configurations.

Bill- Like to see a pic of a stiletto with a red-dot insert. That would be totally cool. Thanks.
We always seem to see the painted numbers.
