Humpback problem

Post by k32 »

Hello,

A couple months ago I bought one of the FB humpbacks that have recently appeared on the market. Nice knife. Recently it's developed an annoying problem: I press the button, the knife seems to take a minute to think, then fires. The (coil) spring seems strong--fires the blade all the way, locks up fine. Any ideas what's up?

Thanks,
Bill

Hi Bill,
The blade might be getting pinched between the liners. See if you can slip a sheet of paper between the blade and the liners. Check the blade for scuff marks along the side of the blade. If that's the problem, carefully spread the liners. Try not to mark up the soft brass. You may want to leave something in the channel over night. You can also carefully measure the blade and the space between the liners. It doesn't take much for the blade to get hung up.
Let me know it that works.

Put a dab of lithium automotive grease in the sear hole in the blade.

Yes, I did. I have to say that Bill DeShiv's lithium grease treatment did it again.

One of mine had the same problem and I put some Break Free CLP oil on it and after opening and closing it a few times, it was fine.

I purchased a new abalone humpback last week.
Really a pretty knife, its the first abalone Italian knife that I own. I have one of the Schrade abalone knives too.
It also had the delay when firing, and a small dab of lithium grease corrected the delay......
They may come dry from the factory so as not to have any lubricant on the tang stamp from opening and closing?

Overall a great knife!
