The one that got me hooked

Post by Jerryg »

Awhile back I was following my wife around a local antique shop wishing I was some where else when I noticed an odd looking knife in the back of a display case. I had never heard of George Schrade or the "Press Button Knife Co" before but I had been interested in knife making for several years and the design of the knife interested me. The spring was broken and as you can see the blade was in ruff shape, but I was sure I could make a new blade so I paid $20 for the knife and took it home with me.

I took it apart an used the old blade as a pattern and made a new one out of D2 tool steel and I replace the spring. While working on the knife I started doing a little internet research on the Press button knife co and that's when I learned about George Schrade.

When I was done I wound up with a 100 year old knife that works like the day it was made for $20 and a few hours labor. I now have 2 knives from the Press Button Co and 1 from Schrade Cutlery, But I have to admit that I like the Press Button's best and I'm sure I'll have more before it's all over with.
