Vintage Campolin Stag shell puller multi blade knife

Post by horizonod »

This is an AGA campolin stag shell puller supposedly from the 70's or 80s. I got this as a late birthday present and I must say,........it is very cool. Something about these older knives kind of speaks to a guy. Especially a knife kind a guy. I can see this compact little tool kit coming in very handy on an outdoor adventure. Bear Grills,....eat your heart out. You dual survival guys too. Only one drawback,....don't go swiming with this in, on or connected to your person. Connect it only to a person you want to SINK!

Anybody have any more insight into the origins of this handy little beast??

PS. What is the awl like thing with the hole in it for? I can think of a few things but I'm sure it has a name and specific function.

I'm pretty sure its a hook-retriever. If you can't get the hook out of the mouth/face of a fish, you clip the line, insert the eyelet of the hook into the hole and start twisting your wrist -curling the hook around the blade until it frees from the fish.
You can also use it to retrieve a stubborn pin-nail from the wall by the same method -inserting the pin head into the hole and turning your wrist until the pin is removed from the wall.
...but I could be way off. :P
the same blade can be found on certain swiss army knives.
the hook on the knife is a better tool for loosening knots.
But no matter what the intended purpose is, that is one cool multi-blade!!! 8) 8) 8) and here I thought the 2003 picklock was the first AGA stamp. makes me feel stupid

Gorgeous stag

The small blade with the hole may have several purposes. I have seen similar blades for repairing leather. You can make a "slotted" hole in the leather and put leather lace through the hole using the blade as a sewing needle.

And the "fish hook" thing sounds feasible as well.

It's primary perpose is to be used as a sewing needle: tent, fishing net, fishnet stockings, leather, etc. Plusany other creative use you can come up with. That is an awesome knike. It's a great tool for any outdoors man/woman. Campolin use some of the best stag I have ever seen. They produce quality knives.
