..... the 1932 film "Freaks" ...... it's clear that the knife is a Flylock swing guard.
What exactly is a "flylock" ?
The flylock is opened by moving the slide button towards the back. They were an American company that made autos featuring the pull back release. Probably the most common were the smaller 3-3/8" double blades but the also made bigger single blade knives.
Thanx whip.... I went to Mark Erickson's book to check; and sure enough, there is a whole chapter on them. I tend to get dazzled by the photos,
and I hadn't read the text sufficiently to realize that the button was a pull-back mechanism. (I've never seen a Flylock in real life.)
Watched the movie "FAT MAN" last night starring Mel Gibson as Cris Cringle. A modern take on Santa Clause and his struggles in the modern environment...lol
The bad guy has a cool OTF switchblade sword and you can see one look of it at 1:54 of the preview. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WjBjUF4Tb_k
Saw a couple switchblades in Studio C sketches. First post here.
Looks like a 9" flat grind maybe. He repeatedly opens and closes it in the video. Notably at 1:50 it doesn't open all the way and he flicks it the rest of the way open. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SA9an8oSpZ8

I think the springs are not in those knives. As you noted, the guy in the video clearly flicks his knife open with his wrist flick. And the Rizzuto in the painting appears to be missing the bottom part of the backspring, which would meant the spring is not in it.
I suspected the knives might have been disabled, with the lack of a loud click in the first video and the wrist flicks the actors give when opening them.
A damascus stiletto was used to stab a character to death in The Blacklist. Looks like a dagger style. The knife was distinctive enough as to help track down the killer, known as Damascus.
