Which type of blade release do you prefer, and why?
We are all familiar with bolster release, button open/close, picklock ring pull, fulcrum, and lockback (both humpback and bolster base release, a-la-Buck and swingguard) knives. Which type of blade release do you prefer, and why?

I dig the picklocks because thats the original style and i just think its the coolest one. next would be fulcrum release because i think its a very unique method of closing the knife and i have two of them lol

lever lock has always been my favorite, don't know why
Re: Which type of blade release do you prefer, and why?
leverlock is a favorite of mine too. Unlock and lock up are the same place, no need to transition to push button, and they look really cool.

Leverlocks seem to be one of the safest, most reliable mechanism, but most of my favorite knives have plunger buttons..

Lever lock is my favorite followed by the rocker arm style on Delta Z and S&M Rocky Mosser's.

In a traditional-style stiletto, I like the bolster release, because it stays out of the way and there's no possibility of accidental release in use.
Re: Which type of blade release do you prefer, and why?
For tightness and zero blade play, nothing beats a picklock. I personally like the bolster release the best because you can close it easily. Picklocks are a pain to close! Leverlocks are the most functional for EDC. OTFs are the most fun to play around with.Button close, except for high end and some china/taiwan knives, usually close too easy, causing accidents and uneven cutting.

Although I have mostly bolster release and picklock Italians I actually prefer levers. They just seem more old fashioned and I like the look of brass with stag or wood.

Leverlock & picklock as a close second. Lately I've been playing around with the plunging button type as seen in Protechs; I'm liking it more all the time.

For EDC definately a leverlock, for safety and ease of deployment, but my heart and mind say button.

I ditto switchman1, and I'll go for my ideal being button open and button close.

DITTO
But, I also like the bolster release - EXCEPT for the asymetetric bolsters, if they "work out the bugs" the new DueBuoi bolster release may be a great EDC

What is the oldest style? Lever or button?
