Fortune Sales price increase???

Post by fashionable_man »

Has anyone else noticed that Stu's prices have gone up on some knives? I just checked out his 9 inch stiletto page, as I do just about every day, and the prices have been marked up on some, but not others. For example, the price of the FB green acrylics have gone up and those "German" FBs have gone up $12 from $40ish to over $50. Wha happen???? I understand our current economic crisis, but he had fantastic prices, kept me coming back! Now, not so sure. An increase of just $10 hits this apprentice carpenter hard.

Prices are up on everything, including metals used in knives and other supplies too. The gas being up so high for a while has changed the cost of everything "shipped"...now that the prices are back down, it will take a while to get the costs back down on parts and pieces if ever...

Also consider the effect of exchange rates.

Stu's had pretty fair prices for a long time. I dont think he's getting rich.

stu has also been ripped off and this may be the only way he can stay in business. i would guess that he still has better prices than most anyone else.

Actually the US$ has strengthened considerably against the Euro. It is now about $1.27 vs $1.59 in mid July, so things now cost about 20% less, all things being equal which they never are. Of course, lots of the items up for sale were bought and paid for when the Euro was king.

Like many other dealers, Stu has great prices on lots of things but can be beat on some others. He no longer is the price leader in all areas.

Seems like he used to give wholesale prices to everybody (remember the "list" he would send a few times a year). Then came the web sites, and gradual price increases.

I miss the old days...

Mr. Natch.,

Yes, that is what I was thinking, much of the existing inventory bought when the dollar was weak vs the Euro.

From what I understand is that in Italy taxes have gone through the roof and in order to survive they have had to increase prices, I would much rather pay a little more then to have them close and not have them around anymore.

Stu is the man, as far as I am concerned. Great knives, great service, and one of the few dealers on my *best of the best* list.

Just to let you guys know, prices have gone up again, even on some knives previously marked up. One was marked up about $20. Moral of the story, if there's something you've been thinking about getting from Stu act quickly as the price may go up higher. :)

Well I think you see the increases everywhere.Even on the auction sites where you used to be able to find 11" swinguards starting at 60 to 70 bucks are now starting at 75 to 90 bucks. You could find 8" and 9" ers starting at 35 and 40 but now their 50 and up. I don't see um coming back down. (I hate to say)
