New Mikovs arrived

Post by Blade Runner »

After hearing that changes (for the worse) were planned for Mikovs, I decided to stock up on them while the gettin' was good. I got five more in last Tuesday, 2 combo, 3 plain, all ABS plastic. They vary quite a bit from knife to knife in snap and blade lock-up, with one of them having what I consider an unacceptable amount of up-down play. Still, I like these knives enough to have a competent (and discreet) bladesmith "tune" them for me...sort of like having a good airgun tuned to bring out its best performance. I also got one of the Catalana style switchblades in sim horn with the same order. It came about half sharp, but the large belly in these blades should make for a decent working knife. Since the scales are attatched with small screws, custom handles would be fairly easy on these.

I like the new forum so far. Will it be any easier to post pics here?

Is it Mee-kov or My-kov? (not that it makes a whole lot of difference).

Brenster,

Mikovs are popular lever-lock type switches from The Czech Republic.

As for pronounciation, I've been saying "MICK-ov"...but I'm not really sure that's right. Maybe tanto (David) could clue us in on that.

I say Meekov, Tiny says Mickov. [He's talked to them so he's probably right].

Mr. Brenster,

I'm wondering if this product change with Mikov is more of a ploy to boost orders. I just got one from Tiny, and its a nice solid knife. It did take some time to break it in though. Don't let Airhead get under your feet there buddie. That's why the Good Lord made door mats and garden hose's.

Best Regards,

Bonz

No. It was info I got directly from Mikov CEO. I too hope the changes will be minor and they think twice before they change something.

David

PS: Mikov - Meekov (just make the "EE" sound very short. :)

David,

Thanks, so I HAVE been saying it wrong!

One nice feature of these knives is that the fairly large scales are easily replaced, which is why I've only bought ABS Mikovs. I have some custom ideas of my own after seeing some of the beauties David has posted here (the old forum, I mean) and on Blade Auction.

Speaking of which, I won the bid on an Al-Mar Wortac with custom firing button on Blade Auction last night. I'd been wanting one for a while, and got a great deal on it. I keep telling myself I need to slow down on buying so many switches, that I'm spending WAY too much money on this addiction...but you know how that goes.

Ok time for a serious post for once.
I have looked at that Mikov site that Mr Tanto has and I love the black ABS handled auto knife because it comes with all the bits my Swiss knife had but with a big ole auto blade in there as well all in one package.

So Mr Tanto I want one please,I see they arent on sale yet so when can I get one as its just what I have been looking for. Also how much will I have to pay ($70 is that right) and can I have one shipped to the UK,dont worry about customs as it is legal to buy them from abroad.

I dont know if thats your company or not but I just guessed that it is,anyway I hope you can help me. :D
