That "Grabbie" Knife Feeling

Post by The Falcon »

I love that grabbie feel you get when I run my thumb sideways across a sharp blade edge. What I can't figure out is why, after equal strokes on each side on the Crock Sticks, that one side seems to feel "raspier" than the other. Anybody have any ideas?

I like running my finger slowing on a sharp edge, anyhow after you hoaned or sharpened it, It may have been on wrong angle therefore allowing the hoaning/sharpening thing allow bigger microspoic teeth (which all blades have) therefore giving that rasping effect or a rougher edge.

Instead of a crock stick, try a good wet stone and an old leather belt to remove the burrs. Steel rods are good to put an edge on a blade or remove it if you are not carefull.

I have a Lansky sharpener and it seems to keep the edge straight. I also have a diamond stone that is even better, but I have to use it under a real strong lamp where I can see that I have exactly the right angle or I will end up with the problem you describe.

Mr. Falcon,

Since you were gracious enough to offer your (bird brained) advice re my Imitation Horn query, please allow me to repay you with my knowledge and wisdom...

First, cover the blade with Super Glue - After it dries (should take about 3 minutes), vigoriously scrape it back and forth on the nearest asphalt parking lot (streets, roads or highways won't work) until it glows cherry red!
Caution: Blade may be hotter than HELL!
Touch it to your tongue to check for proper "grabbiness."
Repeat as necessary...
