Real or Counterfeit?

Post by jim d, »

Some counterfit copies of switchblades are on the market being sold as the real thing. The purpose of this thread is to provide a means of identifying whether a knife is a copy or the real thing. It will evolve as needed if more knives are copied.

The thread is locked for the same reason as the "good ones" thread, and that is so it will contain only the actual tips for identification and not all the preliminary and background discussions. If anyone has reason to suspect another knife has been copied then simply start a new thread for that knife.

A quick way of telling the fake etches from the real akc stamped ones is look at where the bottom points of the triangle end above the MADE IN ITALY .

Also the spacing between the letters is different on both .

Note: some AKC etches Have the "MADE IN ITALY" and "STAINLESS STEEL" etch on the rear of the tang.

Here is a photo of a "Hubectus" It is not a great photo and if anyone has a better one I'll post it. Note that the blade etch is a copy of the Hubertus logo and text, the only difference is that the counterfitters got the spelling of Hubertus wrong. Also note the bolsters don't have the lines engraved in them as real Hubertus leverlocks do.
