Unmarked Blade Unassembled Knife Italian???

Post by johns7076 »

Picked this unassembled switch up on ebay, seller was very courteous and what I think was a fair price. Blade is unmarked, but I feel it is Italian. When I opened the box I found the China made wrapped up in a separate note saying it was a gift and that it was made in China, not a bad knife actually and that made the deal even better. His letter states there is more to assembly than just pushing the pivot pin through and securing it. I have never done this and I am posting it here for any and all opinions and suggestions which will all be appreciated.

The 11" knife is Italian.
Put the blade in and front bolster on the knife. Insert the pin from the button side. You will have to lift the backspring to slide the bolster under it.
Then put the rear bolster in the pin.
While holding everything together, see if the bolster will raise the backspring and allow you to close the knife. If you can close it, see if the blade sits properly in the well. (You will have to hold everything tightly.)

Now, try opening the knife. If it works properly-it's time to peen the pivot pin in place. Most of the pins are slightly too long, so you may have to file it shorter.

Use a small hammer-like a tack hammer. Place the button-side rivet head on an anvil or hard steel surface like a vise. Peen the rear with the hammer until the blade is firmly in place while the front bolster still swivels freely. Don't bang on the pin use light, but firm taps and form a head on the rear of the pin.

Thanks Bill, I will give it a try. Appreciate the help.

I would like to give Bill DeShivs a HUGE thank you for the instructions on putting this knife together. I am certainly no machinist or knife smith so this was quite satisfying, It works perfectly. Only thing left to do is grind down the pin and flatten a bit to hold in place. Here is the finished product.

You are correct! It was described in the ebay listing as 11" and I just kept repeating that. THANKS!

Looking back at the listing, it does not say 11". I somehow came up with that on my own. I just never measured it.
