No, I do not carry a knife for self defense.
They are tools, and only that.

The knife is a formidable weapon and should be thought of as such.
I'm m voting, tools and weapons. There are many types of knives. The tool/weapon knife, some make better tools than weapons and just the opposite is true and then there's an only weapon knife; example: fantasy style.
What's the point of the poll? Whatever the reason I like it.

I voted tool, and only for the reason that I have used a knife as a tool, often, for as long as I can remember ( which isn't as long as it used to be hah!), but have never used a knife as a weapon.
Could my knives be used as weapons? Of course they could, as could any tool I own. Obviously some knives are designed to be weapons more than tools, so there's where the difference lies, right? Tool or Weapon? The difference is choice, of course, in what you buy and what you will do with it. As with most things in life, it needs to be an individual making responsible choices, and that's as it should be. Right?
In my opinion or should I say it goes much deeper than just an opinion,it comes from my gut/heart- A knife is both a tool and a weapon. The way I see it the knife is a tool until the time it's called upon to become a weapon.
Please,no one take offense to this comment but it seems unreasonable to disregard a knife as a potential weapon.
I have carried a knife since I was 6 years old (apprx 45 years) not as a weapon but after all these years I feel incomplete without a knife.
Fact: I cannot recall a time when I stepped outside my door without a knife in my pocket. Not for moment.
One last note- I never carry a knife that cannot be used as a tool or a weapon.
