What if anything is stamped on the tang of the blade? A picture of it opened up might help.

Probably never saw Sheffield. Most likely born somewhere in the Indian Subcontinent.
The sear is just for locking the blade down in the handle. No springer.

Here's a link to one with stag handles made the same way by a different maker.

Re: Rostfrei/Import info

Well I went there yesterday and came away empty handed. The Guy wouldn't go for anything less than $300. I asked him where he got his pricing and info and here's the good part. He went to the autokife.com website and showed me a similar knife but 11" listed for $499 on sale now for $399. He was a pr...

I like the blade change. The thing that surprised me about the mini made by SKM is the quality. The one I have fires like a rocket. Locks up tighter than a drum. The blade is perfectly centered. I wish some of my full sized knives were as well made. http://i.imgur.com/D3Bb1UE.jpg http://i.imgur.com/...

It's possible but for a $10 trainer it may not be cost effective. See if you can find what you need here.

Thanks for all the info Guys. I'm going to take a whack at it this Saturday. I also a bunch of flashy looking Case XX knives that he may like to trade for. I'll see what he knows about knives.

Re: Rostfrei/Import info

General guidelines: It could be a "transitional" made in the 60s. Check for two fully lined "S" guards, 2 piece spring, "D" stamped liner, swivel bolster, nickel silver bolsters including button and old style safety, swedge blade and a modern safety. Like Jim said it's probably an older swivel bols...

Hope this helps. Jim I'll ...
