Re: Frank B 11 inch bayonet switchblade

How much in cash? (Including shipping, of course).

Re: I am probably beating a dead horse, but...

Yeah, I probably could've gotten that blade for five or ten bucks. Shit. Just saw a yellow one sold on aapk for $175. *Edit: I guess it's called a "bowtie". There's another one for sale there for the same price. The steel of the period was either 440A or 1055 Carbon Steel. I would like to see a nic...

Re: I am probably beating a dead horse, but...

They were made by Colonial and were made of fairly decent steel (not great, but decent). If Colonial were to make these again, they would make a LOT of money!

I am probably beating a dead horse, but...

I would like to see someone like Colonial revive the Shur-Snap line with modern steel(s) and handle materials. D2 steel or ATS-34 would work particularly well for this application. Were it as robust as a Case Peanut knife, they could rake in a whole $#it-pot full of money selling these in the "free"...

Re: I ordered the Kershaw Launch 17 this morning.

The more I carry this knife, the more I enjoy it! The steel in this knife holds an edge like a dope fiend holds a habit. The fact that it isn't a "stiletto" seems to comfort the "sheeple" (read: non-knife crowd). I now have this thing "razor-sharp" and use it at every turn because it is so convenien...

S35VN Steel

Bill:

How do you feel about S35VN steel? If have read that it is tougher than S30V (due to the added Niobium of course).

Would you please provide your opinion on the steel in a knife that is to be carried and used?

With consummate respect.

Re: I ordered the Kershaw Launch 17 this morning.

Thank you, Jules. This is a truly useful knife. The S35VN steel is great, and the anodized coating adds an extra layer of protection. (I am carrying it now). What a comforting feeling to know that the blade was manufactured in Tualatin, OR. (15.7 miles from where I sit as I write this). Good stuff, ...

Re: I ordered the Kershaw Launch 17 this morning.

I recommend one of these for every pocket! These are nice knives and take a great edge. Many automatics are big and bulky, but this isn't. The clip point is suitable for a large number of tasks and can be called upon for lots of hard work. (This is NOT a "safe queen"). Buy the darned thing and put i...

Re: My daggers

I wish that I had the old British Commando (Sykes-Fairbairn) knife that Dad gave me 61 years ago. (It looks like the one on the left, but anodized black). That was a MEAN dagger!

Re: sharpen of false edge

A sheathed dagger may be just fine, but the false edge on a folder shouldn't be sharpened due to the possible injury that could be incurred.

Re: I ordered the Kershaw Launch 17 this morning.

Well, the Launch 17 is a peach! The S35VN steel is hard to sharpen but holds a keen edge longer. The jimping on the spine (at the ricasso) is just heavy enough to make forceful cutting tasks easier. The handle is reminiscent of the Launch 8 but the G10 inserts give it sufficient traction to l...

Re: I ordered the Kershaw Launch 17 this morning.

No forgiveness needed, fishtail. Just breaking your balls a little! I was still a little over a month from my 2nd birthday at that time. Thank you for your service. I'm sure you didn't get much of that at the time. Twobit, Some appreciated it. Others called us everything but civilized humans. The S...

Re: I ordered the Kershaw Launch 17 this morning.

I guess I'll let you get away with calling me "kid" since you've got about 17 years on me, but I sure don't feel like a kid (unless I'm snapping away with a switchblade, that is!). I enlisted in the Navy on 7/19/1973 when I was 18 years old. (The Vietnam Conflict was still raging and would be for a...

If my roommate gets there it will be fine. (I don't want to lose a $140.00 knife). Cross your fingers.

Thanks, Kid!
