Re: Waspy little BO/BC

Thanks, guys. Gravknife, I appreciate the informative post! I'm surprised that the BO/BC feature isn't more common. Two sear pins riding on the same rocker may not be as robust as an external locking tab, but it sure is handy, and the lockup on mine is tighter than a couple of my modern high-end pic...

*Gulp* Man, talk about the cream of a beautiful collection.

Any idea how many were handled in MOP? That's gotta be real rarity.

Do you notice any consistent difference between the AGA and Renzo P marked knives in terms of fit or finish?

Re: Waspy little BO/BC

Thanks, Chris. The general consensus in the threads on these little BO/BCs concurs with your assessment. I've also read that it's unlikely that Japanese makers from that era would mark their knives rostfrei , but that's purely anecdotal. And, as Barb pointed out, the horn sure looks Brazilian or sim...

Re: Waspy little BO/BC

Thanks, Barb. I've searched the archives here and elsewhere, and these come up once in a while, but I've never seen anyone offer a best guess on the maker. If anyone knows, or has one share, please chime in. Pics welcome.

Re: 11" AGA Campolin Ebony Frosolone Picklock

...I have a couple 13 inch Swinguards that they made, and they are not sharpened AT ALL!! Maybe not, but I bet they're pointy enough for their once-upon-a-time intended task. I have a Burn Italian-style OTF that doesn't even have a secondary edge bevel. You'd be hard-pressed to use it as a letter o...

Re: 11" AGA Campolin Ebony Frosolone Picklock

Funny thing is, I've never thought of these classic Italians as 'real' knives, since they're made specifically for collectors. That little cut made me rethink that perception and give them the respect they deserve.

I'm Rick. Pleased to meet ya, Barb.

Waspy little BO/BC

This is my first modest vintage Italian (or is it Japanese?) grab to test the waters. I love wasp-bodied knives so I figured what the hell. 7-5/8" OAL, button open/close, flat-guard pagoda (some call it derby ) bolster, D-stamped liners, two-piece spring, full unswedged blade, tight, straight, and s...

Re: 11" AGA Campolin Ebony Frosolone Picklock

Beautiful, elegant-looking knife. Looks flawless, too. I recently picked up a 10" version and man, these things have some serious snap. I was trying out that reverse-grip opening style and cleverly positioned my thumb just in front of the (as you pointed out, 'sharp') tip with predictable results. :...

Re: Frank B Lmt Ed 9" Picklock

There you go Chris, that pic of the blonde is the perfect example of a blade that sits "proud". The reverse would be "banana". Interesting - slipjoint pocketknife collectors usually use the term 'proud' to describe tip peaking. I'd call the knife in question badly overextended, but Italian stiletto...

Beautiful knives. I love that red abalone, Barb.

These were made by GEC, and as usual, they did a great job. The lockup on every one I've played with was like a vault.

Here's one in 'Pumpkin Patch' acrylic.

Re: Do any of you store your kick-spring autos CLOSED?

Thanks for all the responses, guys. I'm gonna leave the knives in my display case open for now, but the case is filled to capacity. As I acquire new knives, I'll go ahead a close one at a time to accommodate the new guy until they're all closed and the case is once again full, thus perpetuating the ...

Re: Do any of you store your kick-spring autos CLOSED?

Thanks for the responses, everyone. I store many of mine closed. It makes no difference. The rumor that storing Italian autos closed will damage the sears or liners is false. I have seen the insides of thousands of these knives. The only thing that causes blade peek is wear. Bill, what conditions wa...

Do any of you store your kick-spring autos CLOSED?

Hey guys. I've been collecting automatic knives for over thirty years, but I'm a noob when it comes to Italian classics. I've read what seems like hundreds of discussions/debates on storing autos over the years, and I think it's safe to say that a knife with a properly designed and heat-treated spri...
