Re: Coil spring straightening
Unless you can properly heat treat the spring, the answer is "no."
And, from your question, I can tell you can't properly heat treat the spring.

Re: Switchblade Identification help INOX
It's not a switchblade if it doesn't work. The knife may be worth more than the added repair cost, and it will sell quicker if it works. Here is an example of pricing. There may be additional problems encountered during the repair-such as blade tip peeking/sear repair becoming evident after spring i...

The "Payback."
I have found some very nice, well made knives that are made in China.
I'm thinking about ordering them in quantity, laser marking them "PAYBACK by Bill DeShivs"- and selling them.
What do you guys think? Not only would I be appropriating their design, but they would be manufacturing them for me!

Re: Grandpa's Coricama Switchblade
There is no more to tell. It's a nice knife made in the 1950s. Fairly valuable. I'm surprised you haven't already received offers. After 25 posts, you can offer it for sale here.

Re: Three Shur Snaps
I remember when Steve Paolantonio of Colonial came to the Blade Show with a big box of Shur Snaps that were left over when they were outlawed in 1958. The knives were filthy and dry. I took him a tube of Simichrome polish and some oil and showed him how to clean the knives up. They were actually min...

Re: Grandpa's Coricama Switchblade
Whether you can tell it or not, the red rust is slowly eating deeper into the steel-and it will continue to do so as long as it is there. The application of oil can slow this progression.

Re: Grandpa's Coricama Switchblade
Your knife was made in the mid to late 1950s. It could have been purchased overseas. Handles are horn. The size is one of the rarer Coricama sizes in the US. You should use WD 40 and a cloth or paper towels to wipe down all the rusted steel on the knife. Do this over several days to allow the WD 40 ...

Re: Switchblade Identification help INOX
It appears that your button spring is broken. That's why it opens when you take the safety off.
