Re: What's the deal with Fishtails?

The Fishtail Picklock goes back to early 20th Century Sicily, not the 40's-60's "Pomade Punks". This "variant" had a clip-point blade, making it infinitely more useful than a stiletto. Before you comment, I have a K55 and like it very much. It has a useful "drop point" blade that's quite efficient f...

My Ganzo G-7582-BK arrived today.

After removing it from its box it is nice as I had hoped. The action is quick, the blade is sharp, fit and finish are excellent. It is everything I have come to expect from Ganzo. The while the design is derivative, it is well executed. The blade snaps open with authority. The firing button sits dee...

Re: Ripper, Jack The

I sat down and figured out (according to the CPI inflation index) Dad would have paid about $8.50 in April of 1936 for his Latama Fishtail Picklock. (Equaling 152.95 in December of 2017).

Re: Ripper, Jack The

I'll be the first to admit when I'm wrong. I'm going to have Dave go with the slimmer 3/4" blade for the 5" long blade. The proportions for the 1095 brushed steel, clip point blade will be proportionally adequate and tough enough to handle any task that I'm likely to encounter. This will be a great ...

More than "cool". If you ever saw the old 1972 film "Fritz The Cat" I will quote Duke the Crow, when I say, "I think you've got coolness".

That picklock is a stunner! (You know that is some sweet horn you have)!

Dave: Are you misgivings concerning stag a question of wear, shrinkage, or damage from modern cleaning chemicals? I realize that being impervious to hydrocarbons is helpful when it comes to the removal of grit, dirt, and grime. With a piece such as this display it the primary concern. Please fill us...

Re: Ripper, Jack The

In the Navy, Dad's nickname was "Boats", short for Boatswain's Mate. Father was a Boatswain's Mate 1st Class.

We'll figure it out.

Re: Ripper, Jack The

Dave sent me another set of drawings with the wider (and thicker) blade with a slightly steeper flat grind. When I finally receive this piece It will be tough enough to go out and fell a small tree! I'll ask Dave to "re-christen" the knife with a name he decides upon. If he decides to call it the "H...

Re: Ripper, Jack The

Thank you, Ian. Not only is this knife a "link" to my late father, but as you said, it is a "lean mean machine". The blade will be a wide 13/16" across. and .188" thick at the spine's back the spine thickness will be .125". The blade will have a flat grind. 4 1/2" of cutting edge makes for a powerfu...

Beautiful knives. I love all the dark horn being displayed. This truly is the beauty of the knifemaker's art.

Thanks for showing us, Don.

Re: Ripper, Jack The

The reason that I'm so beholding to Dave is that this will essentially end my search for the elusive 11" Carbon Steel Latama Fishtail Picklock. I am truly grateful for this engineering effort, as this is my "grail" automatic knife. I won't be wishing and hoping that I'll be able to carry a knife tha...

Thanks, Bill. I stand corrected.
