Re: Commemorative Switch to Honor Rick Giroux

Barb: Definately put me down for -1- dagger. I'll arrange an e-payment with you once you post a price, since we already have a very rough Idea of the $$$ ballpark. As you're aware, I'll be offline for a couple of days following minor surgery, so I wanted to make sure not to miss out on getting my pr...

Re: Commemorative Switch to Honor Rick Giroux

I dunno Barb, I think Frank is likely to build anything someone will pay for. Around 2004, Frank built a few knives for me and Rick both that was based on his Teflon Tactical in the Switch line, but the builds were done from the Classic line in both the 23cm and 28cm builds, both in damascus. Here's...

Re: Commemorative Switch to Honor Rick Giroux

The knife will be an FB classic, 11", have NS bolsters, dk horn scales, a red dot, and RMG over '59-'18 stamped on the tang. "Classic" suggests (to me), a swivel bolster. Nickel/Silver bolsters and red dot safety suggest (again, to me), a picklock. At the fear of complete ridicule, which one? In th...

Re: Commemorative Switch to Honor Rick Giroux

I would have to agree with Luke_of_Mass as to scales. Red-dot in a dark bovine or buffalo would be gorgeous. Some high-contrast dark buffalo w/whitish steaks would also be nice. As much as I love some of lighter scales like french-tip or some of the honey horn pieces, the "green-factor" - would be u...

Re: Do any of you store your kick-spring autos CLOSED?

There is no harm in storing them closed. No, but Barb should be severely chastised for storing her hoard in shopping bags. Her collection is deserving of a massive display case, or perhaps several. Barshoo: Get off your ass, Barb, and make David build you a nice wing on the house to store...

Re: Do any of you store your kick-spring autos CLOSED?

OH NO! It's the eternal question that refuses to fu*king DIE! Open is my personal choice, but I also trust Bill DeShiv's assertions that it matters not, at least during MY lifetime. That said, I prefer to err on the side of caution, as I lack the skills and tools necessary to be fussing with leaf-sp...

Re: Recommendation for first OTF Stiletto

Rather pricey. I think going rate is $600 up based on the few I seen on the auctions over the years. Kind of on the rare side too. I don't think many of them survived, as they weren't very durable.

Re: "Older" Swinguards

Thanks Jeremy. Great examples there. I guess it really doesn't matter that no maker's stamp be placed on knives from Maniago. Even with modern production of today's stamped pieces, seems we never really know how many hands the piece has passed through to get to us. The maker's stamp seems to be the...

Re: 9" FB Mammoth Tooth-Scaled Classic By Rick

DonC: That 28cm in rescaled Ostrich bone is one of the most beautiful stilettos I've seen. I don't know what we're all going to do since Rick is gone - he did some really beautiful work. Watching the progression of his rescale jobs over the years was wonderful - it just kept getting better!

Re: Recommendation for first OTF Stiletto

I second Sammy's recommendation to check the auction site at Sharperdeals.net You can also buy direct from Frank Beltrame and others in Maniago, Italy. Unfortunately, buying direct from anyone in Maniago comes with VERY HIGH shipping costs of around $50 USD per kilo. Frank Beltrame's customer servic...

Don't know. Would have to see a photo or an ad with the knife described that way.

Re: Whats the difference between T-6 and G-10 scales

T-6 aluminum is used for knife frames, bodies, etc.

G10 is a handle material.
