Re: Olivia Garden convex hair dresser shears
Last week the owner of the scissors (17-years old) dropped by my house with my nephew for a cup of tea, and informed me that she is still using them every working day. According to her they're still very sharp and perfectly usable. This seems to imply that my sharpening/polishing method is working, ...

Ka-Bar Marine Corps Commemorative reject
A week ago a friend of mine brought me this gold etched commemorative Ka-Bar with gold plated guard & pommel The knife had a loose guard, which by the way was easily solved by treating the leather handle to a few coats of warm beeswax. This made the leather swell just enough to tighten the guard aga...

Solinger Fahrtenmesser
The link below points to the website of a German knife collector & knife friend who collects various old school Solinger Fahrtenmesser (or Scout knives as they are called in the rest of the world), which i also happen to like quite a bit. The website is meant only for showcasing his beautiful and st...

Anna's Archive
Recently i stumbled upon a very useful website, and i've already dug up several very hard to find old books & manuscripts with it.
If you like reading books, magazines, comics, etc too, this website might come in handy.
Thought i'd share

Re: Olivia Garden convex hair dresser shears
Got word from the owner, and she said that the shears are very sharp and they perform very well.
So far so good, now we wait and see how long these new edges will last in her use.

Re: Petty's Celebrated - shear steel butcher's knife
Tidbit of info: It seems that the knife was made before 1888, as in that year the trademark was changed by removing the line under the barrel.

Re: Petty's Celebrated - shear steel butcher's knife
After hand regrinding up to 400 grit wet & dry. (burr is still attached) To optimize cutting performance the blade now has a full convex shape with long swedge & an edge angle at ~20 degrees inclusive. https://i.ibb.co/qs2psDN/GEDC4261.jpg https://i.ibb.co/W50PWq3/GEDC4262.jpg https://i.ibb.co/4dwVC...

Regrinding/sharpening worn Victorinox carving knives
A set of worn Victorinox carving knives from a local butcher. Edge angles on the really narrow ones were in the 50 to 60 degrees inclusive range, and the request was to see if i could at least make them useful again. https://i.ibb.co/bvK16GL/GEDC4201.jpg Weapon of choice was my cheap variable speed ...

Re: Petty's Celebrated - shear steel butcher's knife
Same here, most of it seems to be made in China stainless steel junk. Now there are 3 of these thrift shops within walking distance of my house (and a few more each at a 10 minute drive by car), so when i go looking for certain classical CD's with quality recordings i also take a peek at the buckets...

Re: Olivia Garden convex hair dresser shears
Sharpening standard household scissors and even dressmaker shears isn't that difficult, i've been doing that for almost 20 years now. If you're planning to do a lot of them a Tormek wet sharpener & scissors jig SVX-150 plus a little bit of practice are all you need to get very good results. For home...
