Re: Fileworking Myth?
I'm no steel expert but I would think when steel is hardened to the "spring" steel hardness, sooner or later your bound to get stress fractures too small for the naked eye and eventually fails. Kind of a luck-of-the-draw thing. So my guess is that if filework was done on a backspring that failed, the ...

Re: Some Of My Stuff
Mos' interesting and diverse collection, Mr. Viking. Agreed 8) The Hubie Hunter looks a lot like a Puma "White Hunter" - Linder also makes a similar one  I was just a little bit disappointed about the Hubie Hunter,in the photograph I got from Hubertus shows the Hunter with (not sure what it's...

Re: Some Of My Stuff
Great collection, Viking45. IMO the Hubie Bowie looks to be at least 40 yrs. old. Had a similar dated back to 1970. I'm glad to hear that. Someone once told me it was from 1971 or older. It's in mint condition and the sheath is flawless. In fact I have never seen leather so well preserved,it still ...

Some Of My Stuff
I thought I would start off with some of my odd stuff.(Hey Vagrant, you said everyone needs one good Swedish knife, the blue handled number is my Swede. It's an IPCO and is insanely sharp) The survival-looking thing is my "Yugo",it's a Yugoslavian Army issue from the early 80's. There's a Kissing Crane...

Re: Fileworking Myth?
I had the backspring for the can opener break on a Hubie about the first time I opened it :!: :!: So it sure does happen :( Yes but how many beers did you open before this happened? Just kidding I personally love the looks of the "vine"(?) filework. I have no custom knives in my collection bu...

Re: Best way to clean up a knife
I agree. As for cleaning it, if it's going to Bill anyway, that's like washing your suit at home before bringing it to the cleaners.  That's a good one Chad. I have mixed feelings on this- Personally I would never alter a rare vintage knife because there are too many late models one ...

Re: SS and Ti Folders
So much incredible talent around here. I don't have any custom's in my collection but there are so many it would be hard to choose.
I like a meaty knife so the one with the 'wheel' thumb stud is my choice between these two although both are amazing.
