Re: Leverletto D2 blade
The 440C blade of the Leverletto is MORE than up to daily use. Bill made sure of it.

Re: The Buck 110 can have a custom steel blade!
I believe that it is because Buck is seeking out a slice of the "premium knife" market. They're not settling for the "almost as good" segment, but are looking for the "hard use" custom market. These knives are, without a doubt, "working" units, made to serve under severe conditions and compete with ...

Re: Calibro numbers question
That makes buying bottles of Sasparilla very attractive. Not much for alcohol (it killed my older brother and his wife). I could, however find myself enjoy some fine Cream Soda, Root Beer and Sasparilla!

It looks as if it's a lock-back (look at the back of the bottom bolster). I could be wrong, but I don't think so.JimBrown257 wrote:How does the converted Buck-type lock?

Re: I have a SOG Spec Elite II auto coming.
The more I carry this knife, the more I appreciate it. The darned thing just begs me to snap it open! I can't recommend this knife enough. The light, fast 4" blade has the cutting power needed for field work when needed. The profile is sufficiently slim. It virtually disappears in my pants pocket, b...

Re: Calibro numbers question
The blades on those are 440C steel (an excellent mid-range alloy). When properly heat-treated it can reach a fine 58 HRc. The Calibro is a knife that carries well when out shotgunning.

13" of ROSCO Picklock goodness! That is right out of the 1940's-50's. The horn is beautiful. I would value it right at $400.00. Bill DeShivs is the answer.

Re: I have a SOG Spec Elite II auto coming.
I have the Kershaw Launch 2 and like it a lot. As your links point out, the 440C steel is an excellent alloy. With proper heat treatment an HRc of 60 isn't uncommon. This alloy will hold an edge tenaciously at a price that is quite attractive. I would dearly love to see out brothers "across the pond...

How about a USN Mark 1 Deck Knife in ELMAX?
An expensive option, no doubt, but worth the money as it would rarely require sharpening in the field. This would also make for a knife that would be easily maintained, yet would last a lifetime. Yeah, I know, I am living in a "fool's paradise". It seems that the old 1930's "hunting pattern" used wh...

Re: I have a SOG Spec Elite II auto coming.
I have a auto conversion Queen swing guard (#1L) with a D2 tool steel blade. IT holds an edges extremely well, but putting an edge on it is a day long task at the Spyderco triangle "Sharpmaker". My Buck Impact (Model 898) automatic has a blade of S30V and is so sharp, it can "shave a goat's nutz"! ;...

Re: I have a SOG Spec Elite II auto coming.
I honestly don't think there any better modern autos out there for that price. The AUS-8 steel is a very high quality steel and SOG has an excellent reputation for quality and standing buy their products. Love the 4 inch blade and was surprised to see how thin this bad boy is. Now I am wanting one....

Re: I have a SOG Spec Elite II auto coming.
I know that I wrote you about having a SOG TAC just like that one. I love SOG's autos and this new Spec Elite II auto is no exception.
