Re: "Generic" OTF spare parts?
Is the part that broke, the one circled in the pic, a separate piece or is the entire track and broken part a single piece? It seems like to get the thing to move it would have to all be one piece but in the pic it looks like that part might be just pinned to the track thing.

Re: 2 true Americans
Wow, the condition of both of those is incredible. The condition of the etch makes me think they are in original (uncleaned) shape. Did you find those two together? Its rare to find one of those in that condition, let alone two from separate sources. So I'd guess they were both together. I know some...

Re: "Generic" OTF spare parts?
You could buy a few real nice Microtechs for the cost of having that part made.

Re: Lil help with tang stamp
Those JPLs have a ton of different stamps. It's unusual that yours says "Stainless" instead of "Stainless Steel".

Re: "Generic" OTF spare parts?
There's not way you would be able to fix that part and the only way to find a replacement is to buy a new one that is the exact model and take the part out and put it in yours.

Re: Shur Snap Restore
Nice work! I know a lot of people don't like old knives being cleaned but I really love cleaning the gunk of the safeties on those. And if you, or anyone, is ever planning on making new spring for those, I can show you some great stuff to use that is pretty much ready to use (you just have to file i...

Is that a rare variation of the EIG stamp? I don't remember seeing one like that.

Re: Doing scales on my own
I can find the stuff that is as expensive as the Brazilian horn. But I used to get (very recently) sets of black horn (totally b;ack) that were 4"x1.5"x.25" for $5. Several of the knives sites and a bunch of Ebay sellers had them. Now I can't find anything but the 5" stuff that is between $17 and $2...

I meant to ask: where did you get your horn? I have been having trouble finding black horn lately.

Re: Doing scales on my own
I did find an aray of some small bar stock on amazon, steel/alum/brass for $13. Prolly order that up!! Those multipacks are usually not a good deal. You probably only be able to use a few of the brass & steel ones and none of the aluminum ones. The brass ones are the only pins you usually need to o...

Re: Video of Home Made OTF
That is pretty cool. Though, I don't understand why he cut a section of steel out of an existing kitchen knife instead of just getting another piece of flat steel (he had gotten the steel pieces for the handle). He still had to grind it and drill the holes, which would be much harder with the alread...

Re: Doing scales on my own
I don't know, seems like you could have saved that front scale. As for the pins, wire hangers are another great source for steel pins. When you need brass ones, 1.5mm and 2mm are pretty easy to find but if you can get the 1.8mm ones they are the perfect size for most production stiletto scales. It's...

Re: Converting a Boot Knife Into a Switchblade
The few things you mentioned are all you need to make knives. You certainly don't need power saws. I got a deep handle hacksaw for $25 and I have been cutting the steel with it for about 6 years. The actually sawing of the pieces is a very minor part of it.
