Re: Mike "Tank" Fisher

I'm assembling some Hubertus knives for a fellow. Got one together, but it refused to open all the way. I have been working the blade manually to break it in. I put grease on it in the shop. Picked up a tube of Tank's Quick release and put a drop in the pivot. The knife slams open now. It's really g...

Re: Over shooting

The backspring on Japanese picklocks are notoriously thin, plus they are nickel plated, which makes them brittle.

Re: Info on batwing

This is a "pre-Rizutto" knife. They are lockback automatics.
If your knife has a brass button, or anything different, it's not one of these.

Re: These old things

The Schrade with the red spacers is a very fine knife.

Re: Over shooting

Sometimes it's a pivot pin problem.
If the knife has been reassembled with a smaller backspring pin, it can cause the blade to over open.
If it's neither of these, then the backspring will have to be lengthened.

You are looking for information, but you have already decided the knife is rare?

Re: Taiwanese rehab

I see.
On your lockblade, you can take the blade and backspring out, and peen the displaced metal back where it needs to go.

Re: Mild Latama corrections

I'm as qualified as anyone to work on Latama's products. Usually, straightening a blade doers not require disassembling the entire knife. When you remove metal at one point, it can create undesired movement at another point. Sometimes it works and the job is easy. Other times, you have to move metal...

Re: Latama switchblades

You do know that Frank Beltrame makes the Latama knives? Walt does the absolute best he can with his products. Tank Fisher corrected a lot of the Latama products for Walt, but Tank is gone now. I simply do not have the time to do that job. I have attempted to find people who are interested in workin...

Re: Taiwanese rehab

You can buy cow shin bones at any pet supply.
I suggest buying bone handles that are already processed from www.knifehandles.com
