I grind by hand. One of these days I'm going to build some jigs. I use a Hardcore 2X72 and Grizzly 2X72 belt grinders. A Rhoomba would be cool, if I could get it to run a cold beer out to the shop.

I don't generally file them, but you could try shimming it with a wedge of wood.

Tom Thank you for the compliment! You do excellent work. Sonnyboy I guess you see why I said to slowly open the blade hole with a file! Buck knives got very lucky with their marketing of the original 110. The timing was right, and they played on the success. The US was hot for locking blade knives, ...

Maybe this will help- The tang of the blade should determine where the backspring sits-open or closed. The "kick" on an auto should only touch the kickspring. When you drill the "closed" locking hole, mark it through the liner, then drill it further toward the spine of the blade than you think neces...

As far as the lever shape, and any other facet of a custom(ized) knife-there are several factors to consider. First is what YOU want it to look like. Then, ability, tools, materials come into play. Look at the custom knife field. Nowadays custom knives seem to all be "piece de resistance" types. Mak...

I really don't know why they are called that!
All the Italian knives I have seen of that pattern were post 1965. Perhaps the fact that there are no guards makes the knife look the same shape as the old Prioletta style knives.

Even though the scales are stabilized, keep a tube of super glue handy to fill voids in the wood. There will probably be plenty. The rear bolsters on Leverlettos ARE nickel silver. The higher the polish on nickel silver, the whiter it looks. The levers on LLOs are sintered steel, nickel plated. Your...

The tapers weaken the lock, but allow it to wear as the knife ages.
Sometimes a very precise lockup is difficult to release.
That said, I think it can be improved. I was never a fan of Buck knives.

Very innovative. I have often thought about milling bevels, and I have the equipment to do it. Just too lazy, I guess!
Since you have a lathe/mill you should be able to do some pretty advanced projects.

Everyone does it differently! I was at Merlin's shop last night-we constantly talk and exchange ideas and tips, but we accomplish many of the same things in different ways. I have a full shop with all the machinery, but I remember when all I had was hand tools. I try to present options for repair th...
