Were there ever real Romo or MM square buttons made?

Re: 7" Square Button Latama

the sear is depressed by the square button-exposing a section that is just thin enough to pass through the opening in the hole. Works just like the Queen toothpicks. Make sense? Yeah, I get it. And does this system have any benefit over the usual button/sear design or was this just something new th...

Like Champagne.

These did come through my shop.
What'd you do to the one on the bottom?

Re: 7" Square Button Latama

That is cool! I would love to see where the bidding for that one would go on the auction site.

Do you know what year (roughly) this one is from?

And could you explain the second button? What purpose does that serve?

Also, what is the story with the open sear-hole?

Re: More French knives

Are these all ones you've worked on? What's the name for that model? And did any of them ever have safeties? It seems like I've seen ones with safeties. I know that new cheaper French-styles have safeties but I thought I had seen older ones like these with safeties. Or am I mistaking those with thos...

Re: WTB Rizzies that need work

This "Hard As Nails" stuff says "strengthener" on it. I would guess that this is what clear nail polish is as clear nail polish must serve some function (what else would be the point of using nail polish that can't be seen?). And what other function could there be than strengthening the nails? As fo...

Re: WTB Rizzies that need work

I have some "Hard as Nails" finger nail stuff. Would that work? And I was also thinking, it might be best to cut the liners off, then coat the underside with whatever stuff and then wait to see if it works or if it still oxidizes. Now, I realize this will be a long wait. But how long do you think th...

Re: WTB Rizzies that need work

Yeah, people aren't too optimistic about saving the bolsters if cut off the liner. Do you think there will be any way to stop the underside of the bolster (which will no longer be plated) from oxidizing? I mean is there something like a paint of a sealant that would work on zinc? the one in these pi...

Re: Kissing crane kc49 rostfrei

If it were mine, I would polish the blades. A lot of people are of the mind that you should leave it as it gets with age but polished brass bolsters on a knife like that look awesome. And it's different than full restoration and, besides, the tarnish will be back soon enough.

Re: Kissing crane kc49 rostfrei

That's a pretty cool one. Most of the ones you see with a kris are the newer, cheap Chinese ones. Those are the ones that don't say "Germany" on them. The older ones, like yours, were made in Italy but sold by a German company (that's why they say Germany on the blade). I think all of the older, Ita...

Dave, Those look awesome. The bottom bolsterless handle looks great. Before these two, I haven't seen that on any modern autos other than those 9" FBs. Are those meant to match your KB's with no bottom bolster? I've dealt with Rick before but I hadn't realized he did work on knives. It just occurred...

Looking for older Balis

If anyone has any older Balisong knives that they might want to sell, send me a PM. I'm particularly interested in Filipino ones but I'd like to see whatever might be available.

Thanks!

Re: Kissing crane kc49 rostfrei

I was told by an old man back many years ago some of these were made as far back as the late 60's early 70's and sat in a warehouse for years before being sold to businesses that would put those ads in back of sportsman magazines and catalog-type companies. Pretty sure I bought mine in 80/81. That ...
