Re: The Okapi Ratchet Knife - Question
Well, I've got mine to open one-handed. After years of forgetting about it, today I was bored and stumbled upon my Okapi, and thought "I'm going to figure this out." My trick is... to slightly weaken the saddle spring. Open the knife, then lift the spring to unlock the blade. Over-extend the blade, ...

Re: A new Maniago
Gotta agree with you here, Vagrant. I'm looking for an Italian-styled auto that will stand up to daily pocket knife use. Solid bolsters, soldered to the frame, instead of flimsy stamped hollow ones that are only attached by one pin. Decent blade steel. That's about all it will take, to make a good w...

Re: Possible GREAT NEWS coming for PENNSYLVANIA!
Ahh got ya.
Well, I'm not sure when the next session is, or if it'll be brought up at the next session... I just googled "Pennsylvania HB2548" and the first link is to Legiscan, which still only says "July 11, 2012 - referred to Judiciary." I assume this will be updated at some point........(?)

If I were to buy one, I'd want it sharp. If I were to buy a second one, I'd want that one un-sharpened.

Re: AKC OTF: good or bad?
I've got an AKC Concord, and I'll recommend the same one without hesitation. The blade play is not bad; about the same as any other sub-$300 OTF knife (they all will have SOME play, due to the nature of the design). The mechanism is reliable (mine hasn't ever mis-fired or failed to work in any way),...

Re: Damascus, or Faeces?
That looks like most other low-cost "damascus" blades, which are just layered steel, and not pattern-welded like the steel you see from Devon Thomas for example.

Re: german gravity knife
They are cool knives. I think the clip point blade is slightly less common. When I was a kid, we used to play with these:

I saw that one too, and thought about bidding on it, but lucky for you, I didn't! I was keeping my fingers crossed and trying not to hop up & down the entire time, afraid you (or someone else with an affinity for that type) would jump in! ...thanks for letting me snag this one. It's ...

Re: Is this real stag?
I'm gonna throw in another vote for the Frank B theory. I have a Frank B stiletto, although mine is actually stamped as such, that has the eyelet/pin/removable spring configuration. It's a very robust knife, with all the parts fitting together nice & tight.
