New Henckels Book Featuring Switchblades

Announcing a new book on J. A. Henckels knives which includes a chapter on switchblades. Featured within the switchblade chapter is a beautiful Henckels switchblade which is the absolute oldest known spring-fired model from any German cutlery company. Several other unique Henckels switchblade knives...

Old Maltese Flat Guard

Old Maltese flat guard models are certainly uncommon and are normally associated with time frames of the late 1800s to early 1900s. I had suspected that they were made a bit later based on appearance and construction, but had no proof until a friend of mine (and the most knowledgeable collector of o...

I was looking through The Art of the Switchblade and came across a "Swiss Army" version of your posted lever lock that has a bottle opener, screwdriver, corkscrew etc., but then you knew that :D

Re: A Rare Pair

jim ~ Do you have any idea WHY there are no longer "pages and pages of old and new switchblades for sale every day" ? SharperDeals seems to be on life support. The few other sites that I visit usually have a very few knives available, followed by 38 pages of knife photos all marked "sold out". Is i...

Re: Unusual Elosi

Thanks for the nice comments and we certainly all learn from each other. Here is a picture showing the two Elosi models that exist. The smaller one in the picture better reflects the patent drawing. Also shown is a close up of the shell wrap handle on the smaller model. It shows a neat street scene ...

Unusual Elosi

Here is an odd duck that's not commonly seen. This German-made automatic knife is marked "Elosi" which was a brand of "Ernst Lohr Sohne KG" founded in 1922. The model shown had a patent applied for in 1954 and was registered in 1957. A patent picture is included below the knife. While this was not a...

Re: EARLY MANIAGO SWITCHBLADE

I certainly enjoy seeing every type of automatic knife, but it's models like this one that really command my attention!!! I believe it takes years of collecting to appreciate how significant a knife like this is. Examples such as this one are the foundations for all the later automatic knives that w...

Re: Plain Jane among beauty queens

Jim, that is certainly no "Plain Jane". That is a beautiful example and while I admire colorful horn as well as the next guy, the classic combination of black and bright metal is hard to beat.

thom, that is a wonderful example as well.

Comparing Similar Picklocks

In viewing the many wonderful small picklock models from boombotz and others, it caused me to take a second look at a few small models of mine. Here are two that I found to be quite curious. While they are similar in appearance, they are actually very different. First the size, one is 11.8 cm and ma...
