It's with great sadness that I write that Armando Beltrame, well-known Maniago knifemaker and former owner of AB Coltellerie, passed away yesterday, aged 78.

This forums itself started as a board linked to AB Coltellerie, back in the late 90s.

Wally was one of a kind, with his intelligent and witty - yet hilarious - messages.

And indeed he was one of the original members of this forum, when its name was not yet TalkBlade but SKM Forum.

I will miss him. Rest in Pease, Mr. Corpse.

All knives Armando made were marked "AB Coltellerie", "AB" or some variation of that. That was true for the whole period we worked together.

In the last years before retirement I know there were some SKM-marked knives around, but I'm unable to tell any details about them.

I confirm that Armando Beltrame is retired. So, any new AB/SKM knife must be a fake, unless it's coming from some stock (which is very unlikey).

I had also thought the little keychain sizes and up to 5.5" were SKM. They seem still available. Maybe by another maker?


They should be old stocks... in theory anything marked SKM should have been AB Coltellerie.

If new things are made with the SKM brand, they are an entirely different thing ...

AB Coltellerie (Armando Beltrame) was the knifemaker behind the SKM "core" models: Italian Stiletto 8", 9" and 11". These had various etchings over time, including: "Made in Italy", "AB Coltellerie", "AB" and (in the last years) "SKM".

The other knives sold at SKM (bigger Stilettos, Lever Locks ...

The knives manufactored by SKM / AB Coltellerie were definitely NOT stamped as "SKM".

The SKM stamp was a later one, and they were mostly sold by other web sites, as SKM had already been shut down.
