Re: Picklock sharpening fails

While I don't pretend to be an expert on the subject, Italy has been notorious for millennia for the use of daggers meant solely for thrusting rather than cutting. The assassination of Julius Caesar is a classic example that is virtually identical to the latest shanking in your nearest State prison ...

Re: 3 Knives

Bill, that's a great presentation! Thank you so much! One of the things that really gives me conniptions is differentiating between subtle color differences in metals -- my ability to distinguish similar colors, especially when they are very light or very dark, is worse than average and goes downhil...

Re: 3 Knives

I'm the first person to admit that I am no expert when it comes to sniffing out fakes. I don't think that my powers of observation are particularly horrible.... it's mostly lack of knowledge and experience. I would very much appreciate turning this into a "teachable moment" if somebody could post a ...

Re: Vintage "Coricama" 13 - inch picklock

I'm not great at discerning slight differences in metals from a photograph, but the front bolster appears (to me, anyhow)
to be a different composition than the rear bolster. Has it been replaced.....? --or is it just me....

Re: CHRONOLOGICAL LIST of switchblades in movies

snap ~ Thanks and welcome back! I've watched quite a few 'Rifleman' episodes and somehow never caught a show that included any automatic cutlery..... I doubt if the producers bothered with historical accuracy -- they probably used whatever was at hand -- but this has set me to wondering just how dif...

Re: Good Stag vs Bad?

This stag is much nicer then some i have seen' I wish the two sides were a tad more matched, but the cut-out for the button is superb. And the sound when it clacks open--! Think of one of those huge padlocks that's almost the size of your fist; when this knife opens, it sounds like one of those bei...

Re: Good Stag vs Bad?

This 13" swinguard is one of my favorites. It is impossible to convey by a mere photograph how massive this thing is -- it is very heavily built and weighs 388 grams. For contrast, I just weighed an ordinary 13" switch (acrylic scales; fixed guards) and it clocks in at just over 177 grams. One of th...

Re: Info on Switchblade

Local knife laws and restrictions are available at https://kniferights.org/ You may find that some collectors will eschew the smaller knife simply because they feel that the nail nick looks out of place on a switchblade. The more significant issue IMO is the big "bald spot" around the deployment but...

Re: Repair & Custom Handles??

Just to be crystal clear, two people (other than Bill) have been referenced in this thread as possible choices for repair jobs. I choose not to specify which person was involved with my situation; but in my initial post here, I worded the first sentence in my second paragraph very carefully -- the p...

Re: My New Display Case

Jim ~ The last time that I had knives out in the open, it proved to be very convenient for the guys who kicked in my back door while I was at work.

I do not display my collections in my home any more.
