Re: Campolin prototipo
Like Bill said, made by Renzo Pascotto for A.G.A. Campolin. Odd how he wrote prototype in Italian on some of his knives and English on others.

Re: Abalone How Do They Do It
As I'm not a fan of thr prmary green color of abalone, I have quickly learned to never buy any without seeing it first. But, when the colors lean more towards the purple, pinks and blues, I find it gorgeous. I know the shells must come/grow much bigger, because I can't imagine much use coming from t...

Re: Abalone How Do They Do It
Does the same apply to mother of pearl ? I have a couple of old victorian and Edwardian fruit knives and it looks like 1 solid piece . Hi Ian, hope all is well! I have heard the term "slab" of Mother of Pearl and/or Abalone when referring to knife handles. Maybe it does exist, but in my mind, that ...

Re: Abalone How Do They Do It
I don't think I've ever seen artificial abalone, Jules; or maybe I have and wasn't aware of it being so. There have been so many advances in acrylic/plastic materials lately. They actually have “stickers” that are supposed to look like abalone. Like a tape adhesive. But, some people think that lami...

Re: Abalone How Do They Do It
I think people get confused when they hear the term "laminated abalone", like it meant artificial. But, I believe it refers to the protective coating genuine abalone is encased in.

Re: brazilian horn
I think there was a time when importing horn from Brazil to Italy was less expensive and the term just stuck no matter what the cow's address was

Re: Raimondo picklock
Nice to see an old thread brought back to life. Gives me a chance to inquire about my Raimondo. I have no doubt it is one, but mine doesn't have the word "SPRING" on the tang. Everything else seems to check out: 11", the keyhole shaped locktab, of course RAIMONDO lengthwise on the blade. The scales ...

Re: Grandpa's Coricama Switchblade
It's a great little knife, for sure! The 4.5" one that sold on Arizona Custom Knives for $700, was actually a rare swivel bolster, which the fact that it's a swivel bolster Coricama in a rare size. But, your knife has definite big value.

I hope Bob doesn't make the forum completely disappear, even if we can't post or comment there. There's still 20+ years of knowledge there that is still very valuable.
