I would definitely leave this be .It just looks so beautiful as is .

Love thise flatguards on it ,adds something to aesthetics . in my opinion .Beautiful horn ,large button and blade is in great condition ,add that patina and its a life keeper .

I prefer the dropoint blade for shape but would be happy with either knife .

As for your qustion on American paratooper knives in ww2 I believe they used Prestos .
Dont know for sure if they were issued or private purchased ,but I would love one anyway .

I will wager it has good steel Luke ,they dont make them like this anymore .
I agree its too huge to be practical but would be a great knife for a western .
"Remember the Alamo" springs to mind with Jim Bowie .Love that film and most old western flicks America has kindly give us brits .

Cool old Bowie knife

Saw this old bad boy in Auction and thought I would share it here. It wasn't just the knife but also the beaded buffalo hide sheath that popped out to me aswell. The knife must be around 1860s -70s and is made by Hallam of Sheffield . Looks like a real old west piece but although I always wanted one...
