Ehm, ok, so I know this is way above my league and I shouldn't even be posting here (that's why I'm posting here ), but as you all know, most Italians have some degree of blade play, from very little to a lot. Are there any general tips on measures to take to minimize or eliminate that?

The nature of the Italian knives, especially the longer ones, make removing play problematic. Up/down play can be removed by making sure the lock tab and pin fit properly-along with having an unworn pivot pin.
Side/side play can be removed by peening the pivot pin, but you will still have flex in the liners.
