Mikov kit finished
This was my first kit had some problems here and there all in all pretty happy with it. Koa scales, Only real problem afffecting it's actual performance is, the pivot pin was pretty much flush so I couldn't peen it over. I kinda used a punch and tried to "splat" it out, it works but it's not tight. As you can see it has the openers so maybe this was a pin for the reg. kit. So anbony have a pin or can you suggest a place to get a new pin so I can replace this one so it'll sit tight.
Was a fun project I normally do electronics so this was totally new. It was a lot larger than I thought also.

Nice job, Mr. Z. The koa looks really good. Mikovs are pretty hefty knives. You're hooked now.
Some folks call it a sling blade, I call it a Kaiser blade.

Nice job!
If you have use of a drill press, just chuck up a slightly oversize nail and use a mill file to slowly take it down to the right size of the pin.

Terry is right. If no drill press, even a hand drill will accomplish this. A nail or sometimes I use welding rods and use the same method for turning them down to the size needed.whippersnapper wrote:Nice job!

Thanks everyone. So I'm at my buddies guitar shop and he has a metal lathe and I have here one nail What size should I turn it don to??
Re: Mikov kit finished
Remove the original pin , measure the thickness and make the new one the same thickness.
Length should be about 1/16th or so longer than than the thickness of the knife. you don't need a lot sticking out to peen the pin , too much is just as bad as too little .(except you can shorten it)

this is a very good point. I learned that lesson the hard way!j.a.c. wrote:you don't need a lot sticking out to peen the pin , too much is just as bad as too little .(except you can shorten it)
I read a tip somewhere to leave a length about half the diameter of the pin sticking out on each side. You can always fabricate another pin if it doesn't spread out enough, but it can be a real pain to remove a bent pin.

alright done and done. Thanks for the help. Great knife looking forward to popping open a brew with it. Just wish it was alittle smaller just a bit too big to have in my pocket.
