This is great illustration of a "mother of invention" moment. Great job!
Re: Homemade scales for knife
LOL it was. I bought a set of blank scales (3 pairs) from Etsy and tada!
I used the Mahogany for this knife. I have the Walnut and the Maple scales left.

way better ! perhaps drilling and pining them on would be safer.... so if your using it they stay put ?
Re: Homemade scales for knife
I used JB Weld. They're not coming off.

That large cutout right at the ricasso doesn't help to inspire confidence in the knife.
Hopefully the extended wooden slabs help a bit to strengthen/stiffen that area.

Not bad! I’m looking to make some custom scales out of a spare hickory hammer handle for my next project!

JB Weld is a good epoxy. It's not as good as mechanical fasteners. No glue is.

I had factory glued stag scales pop off a folder. I re-glued them and they haven’t fallen off yet. I imagine they’ll pop off eventually either by the knife’s minuscule bending or the glue drying out. By the way I picked this Jindiana up in 2011 the stag scales are inserts on each side of the knife.
