How do YOU test for blade sharpness?

Post by BennytheBlade »

I have seen people shave paper, the hair off there arms or even face... Also have seen in movies where a rose petal or scarf was dropped on a blade and cut it... I have my doubts about the reality of that... I typically give my freshly sharpened knif a draw across the corner of my cleaning cloth, and it usually leaves a nice razor cut.
Very funny, Scotty. Now beam down my clothes.

Custom maker Al Pendry has prouduced a steel called Wootz [which he believes is the original Damascus formula]. It has passed the silk scarf test, this is VERY impressive [and in most other cases simply untrue].

I use my tongue the same way the 3 stooges did with the straight razors they were shaving each other with.

Mr. Benny,

Can't you just find someone to test your sharpening skills on?

That's what I do anyway.

Best Regard's,

The good way to check the blade is to use a piece of rolling paper or rice paper. If it cuts it clean, that's a good thing...if it rips or shreds...well, you know.

I cut branches or saplings or pencils in half, like in my video. if the cut is clean, then it's sharp enough for me. I was having fun running around a corn field today. six corn stalks in one cut. WOO HOO!

Arm shave works for me BUT I have psoriasis and if I hit a "rough spot" it can be a little bloody. [Usually that spot will heal better than it was so it's not a major problem].
