well mr bonzo - if you are trying to embarass me by forcing me to admit that i must have skipped class the day they went over the exact reasons behind each design - then well done! i don't think you need a college degree to know that "yes" they were designed for puncturing, tearing and slicing flesh, but now that you've put me on the spot - why don't you give us all a little lesson?

I like to think that the purpose of ALL Italian stilettos is to manage to find their way into my collection :D

Despite the "hype" about armor piercing that the Tanto has gotten the first armor piercing knife was the [fixed blade] Stiletto. It was designed to penetrate chain-mail armor. Also the China/Phillipino argument over the Kris is best settled by noting it originated on the Malay penninsula. The Phillipinos adopted it very quickly and have long claimed it as theirs. Several years ago a PBS TV station did a kids show on one of the last Bladesmiths in Malaysia who still hand forged [at the time] Kris knives.
Java/Indonisia also have it.

Greetings, Mr. Vagrant-

Isn't there some truth to the rumor that the evolution of the chain mail threading flat blade sired the ever popular cruciform blade dirk ? Provides your guest with a wound that will not self close... I got a folding one on my AK. A couple o' waves about the room sure clears out those malingering in laws quick.

AS ever,

Your ol' pal,

Wally J. Corpse

The diamond shape to the cruciform is a logical evolution.
Can we PLEASE go with a Leverlock or "New Age" for a forum knife?
A Typhoon might be nice. We could get really authentic and go with a genuine [fixed blade] Stiletto.

Spot,

I like the way you think. This would be a great knife with either french point or quality, stablized honey horn. 8)
