Re: FS: Custom leverletto, buffalo horn and filework
Mr. Muskrat have you ever customized a Hubie Guardian or a Russian Ladya? Just curious.
My Guardian has gorgeous stag but I only wish the top scale covered the release thingy(what's that thing called?)
I'd love to have one of my Russian's customized. It's one knife I have never seen any custom work on.
I want to say again that the Mikov with the pickbone you did is incredible.

Not done a Hubie yet but it's o nthe "to-do" list. I've got 3 now and the smallest one may just find himself on the chopping block 'soon as I get a free moment. If you're interestedin having anything done just shoot me an email muskratmanknives@gmail.com

Do NOT attempt it on a LadyaViking45 wrote:Mr. Muskrat have you ever customized a Hubie Guardian or a Russian Ladya? Just curious.
The liners are cheapo pot metal and attempts to disassemble will result in FAR more parts than intended

Can we rightly assume you learned that the hard way?
I learned how to fix lots of stuff; by creating piles of parts..

BINGO - tap out the pins, pick up the pieceshogwild wrote:Can we rightly assume you learned that the hard way?

If memory serves me, the bolsters are also chromed pot metal
This IS the most deceptive knife made - it SEEMS SOOO SOLID but it's solid "stuff"

Re: FS: Custom leverletto, buffalo horn and filework
LOTS of people died, trying to fly, before the Wright Brothers got it right
I'm just another "walking wounded" that discovered the wrong way to do something
IF I had to do it again, I'd drill the pins out NOT try to drive them out
But, why bother ? They ain't worth it

Yeah I had a feeling the metal was cheap. They hammer open hard and at first glance seem built like a tank but even though I am no metal expert I can tell by looking at the chrome plating that it was either low grade steel or pot metal underneath.(you can see it's grainy)
They weren't cheap to buy though I have two,one was 150 the other 120.
The steel in the blade is very high quality, from what I read on a Russian website it is a powdered metal like the CPM-S30V.
How reliable that information is I'm not sure. The site had nothing to gain because they were not selling the knives, just explaining Some new Russian steels so I have no reason to doubt them.
Them darn Ruskies anyway
