Looks like a planter. The rounded tail and tattered fins being the result of swimming in concrete tanks. Once a year, they have a free fish day at the hatchery down the street from me. A bare hook does fine.

It's a stockie, for sure but, slightly bigger than most [13" vs 11"]
So far this one has survived all the nasties, like herron and mink, that use the brook as a fast food joint

That water looks great. Is there any deep holes to go for a swim?

Maybe one spot [just barely] deep enough but it's only about 3 1/2 +/- feet deep and the bottom is a mixture of mud/rock/dead trees/brush - not ideal for swimming
I believe it's a cornsnake.
I had one in the basement one year and it sat [coiled up] and watched me rebuild a starter only 4" away. When I finished it crawled away
