Unusual older ringpull
Here is an unusual ringpull, part of a very limited production, as I understand it. When closed, the guards are partially contained in the handle.

I like it no bolsters! Cool scales! Do you have any additional information for your knife? Maker? Age? Is it a custom rescale?

Yes, each liner has a recessed area that extends to just below where the guards rest. You can just see it in the close-up photo above. The make, I think was Del Tim. The back of the blade has a small, but deep 'Brevet.' on the tang, as you can see in this photo:

Re: Unusual older ringpull
Haven't seen another one like it. Is it new or new old stock?

Re: Unusual older ringpull
have recently designed one where the guards are fully concealed when closed. I will have to post the screenshots.

Re: Unusual older ringpull
OK, I promised to post this, so here goes.
First a bit of history: This is a "Russian Prison Knife" from Mike Kovalenko that recently passed through my hands. There's lots cool about it, but for now just notice the swingguards (actually a single guard straddling the blade.)
When you close the knife it disappears part way into the handle via a notch in the liners which is shaped to help the guard fold in properly.
That takes care of the inspirational part of this sermon. One of the first knives that DoubleD produced was called "il Punto", meaning "the point" and I had hoped to revisit it one day doing some things that would preserve the general appearance, but making it easier and more forgiving to build. Il Punto 1 and 2 were both slightly over 14" long and had a narrow tapered blade. This new one is called "ParaPunto" because it has a parabolic blade shape. Without belaboring the point, this is easier to grind and works out much better in terms of room for kick springs and peeking. So I did all that and decided to design it as a swinggaurd, and then thought that I should completely hide the guard when it is closed. It's about 99% hidden. By the way, this one is a nice 13" long.
Here it is closed. Only the tiniest tip of the guard shows, as I had to round the bolster a bit to allow the guard to swing into place.
This is the open external view, nothing much interesting here, just a step I have to go through when designing the rocker mechanism.
Here's the closed view with all the internal parts shown.
And here's the open view with internal parts.
One of the guys in my Facebook group just felt it should absolutely be built as a dagger rather than a bayonet, so I mocked this up.
Duke is going to have a go at it, but both of us are in our 70's and moving S - L - O - W, so it will be a while, if ever. If you are just dying to see it happen, I can send templates to Jeremy who will probably build it while you are talking to him on the phone. Do let me see that, please!
