Two questions. Liners and springs.

Post by Scotchman »

Does solid brass liners mean they cover the "ears" of the bolster(s) ? What's better, one piece spring or two ? Thanks. Scott

Not "solid" but "full". Those cover the ears. No major difference in one or two piece performance wise, just easier to replace broken spring. With one piece you have to replace the entire end of the blade well. With two piece the broken comes out, the new goes in to the same slot. Technically, Mikov's are one piece, but have a removable spring.

There probably isn't a way to tell one piece from two without the knife being disassembled or or is there?(Frank B. 11" switch.) Also, the same knife has a bit of a hump on the steel piece on the spine, the top part of the knife (I believe that's what it's called), . Is that any cause for concern? I will try to post a pic if needed. Thanks.

All of Frank Beltrame's knives use a one piece spring.

The good news is that springs do not break very often. If it does break, you can always be repaired.

solid brass liners is just that " solid brass" .

f
"Full cut" liners cover the guards or ears as you called it .

like Bill stated a spring is a spring so a 2 pieces is no better than a 1 piece but a 2 piece can be fixed easier if it ever breaks.

hope this helps.

Thanks everyone and I'll post a pic of the "hump" on my stiletto. It will take me a little time.

The only real difference is that a two-piece is easier to fix if the spring breaks. But it's really not that hard to alter a broken one piece to fit in a new spring.
