aoto knife recommendation

Post by irwin51 »

I'm looking at different large (3.5" blade or so) auto knives available on web sites, trying to find a good drop point auto knife in the $75 to $120 range purely for utilitarian use. I have to cut small cord (on the job) from a kneeling position several times a day, using only one available hand. I've been told the S&W MP1600 is of poor quality (too much lateral blade wiggle in the open position). Kershaw made a good knife (can't recall the model number) a couple of years ago, but it's been discontinued. The Kershaw 7200 (3.4" blade) was recommended. But I could use some more advice and recommendations to point me in the right direction. Thanks for any help.

The steel used in the Kershaw 7200 is CPM-154 which I have had excellent use from. I can't speak for that knife personally but it is here for $79.00 http://kershawguy.com/products-page/ker ... automatic/

My personal favorite is a Protech TR-3 but that's a bit above your upper limit. Cutting cord isn't gonna be much of a workout for most decent steels.

By now you must have picked up a knife, but if not check out Mikov.
