If the knife locks at all I think it would be a type of lockback using the tabs on the end.
Typically Sicilian or Roman knives had a ring to pull up the lock. Some had a lever on the handle (sistema francese/French method) to lift it. This was possibly an ancestor to the rotating bolster.

I have a hazy recollection (possibly from a 70s kung fu film :wink: ) that a special knife was usually used for sepuku. Quite possibly with a tanto point. And that the "tanto", smallest of the three typical "samurai" blades, was essentially a utility knife. Pretty much like the Scottish skean dhu so...
