If the knife locks at all I think it would be a type of lockback using the tabs on the end.
Typically Sicilian or Roman knives had a ring to pull up the lock. Some had a lever on the handle (sistema francese/French method) to lift it. This was possibly an ancestor to the rotating bolster.

I have a hazy recollection (possibly from a 70s kung fu film  ) that a special knife was usually used for sepuku. Quite possibly with a tanto point. And that the "tanto", smallest of the three typical "samurai" blades, was essentially a utility knife. Pretty much like the Scottish skean dhu so...

no preference for "hawkbill" blades at all is there? What's with these knives that have blade tips that point toward your toes? :? Don't knock it till you've tried it :) Very, very functional for most knife tasks, extremely good cutters, often better "pointers" than the design might make you think....

A lot of the traditional Italian folding stilettos such as the Roman and the Sicilian had a lot of slop and could be easily flicked open, they would then lock closed. Bear in mind that most of these were long knives by our standards. Oal of 33cm was often the starting point, the size also helped wit...

Ain't that the truth! I shan't list all mine but they range from bearclaws to lagriffes to an Emerson Karambit. I've had a Ladyhawk auto for almost a couple of months and it's become my alltime favourite, I feel naked whenever I have to go somewhere without her! I'm planning on getting a manual vers...

Re: It's Time to Play What's Your Favorite.........Again
I know we've played this game before but there are new members and new knives so............... 1. If you HAD to carry a non-auto EDC, what would it be? 2. If you HAD to carry an automatic EDC, what would it be? 3. If you were in a bad part of town at a bad time of night and there were some bad dud...

My e-mails are getting bounced by distintive edge too. Some mega spam filter perhaps.
I've followed Rolex's lead and tried pming TDE (on knife forums) last night. Message has been read but no reply yet.

The sfarziglia, a traditional Italian stiletto folder from Naples, skeletonised and nasty was made to be opened by flicking one-handed.

All autos seem to have individual voices but two of mine sing. One is an Italian stiletto of unknown make that unlocks from the opening button, it makes a double click on opening. The other is a bit out of place in this forum...a first run auto Al Mar cigar cutter, typical little dog with a big bark.

I believe switchblades are illegal in Italy and must be exported or sold to another company that is licensed to export them. So there are probably companies we have never heard of that sell to the larger companies. Anything I'm wrong on others will correct [quickly]. As is often the case legal is o...

who made this one?
As this is a first post, hello to everyone. I have an auto in my collection I am curious about. It looks like a typical 3inch blade black handled stiletto. Instead of the usual hole in the blade it has a rectangular slot about a quarter inch high by 5/8 inch long. This also serves to lock the knife ...
