Re: Microtech Scarab vs Scarab EXECUTIVE?

Regular Scarabs have a "skate tape" gritty insert, executive Scarabs have a smooth chassis. Many people don't care for the skate tape because it wears out their pockets. People who prefer a positive grip prefer the regular Scarab. That's the only difference. Blade steel differs in both models depend...

Re: AKC OTF: good or bad?

They fulfill the "gadget factor" jones and are a good value for the money but they are not of very high quality. It's a basic "you get what you pay for" scenario although I think some of the high end OTFs are overpriced,...but they ARE very high quality throughout. Is there very much bladeplay on t...

Re: Social media vs knife forums

The economy has effected peoples ability to buy. Buying, or considering buying, a new knife often spawns a post so I'm sure that's part of it too. 10 years ago switchblades were more of a novelty than they are now so the "taboo factor" has dwindled as well. It may just be me but it seems I have less...

Re: Social media vs knife forums

I have rarely ever used forums as a sales platform because I believe forums are to share experiences and information among individuals. Using forums as a sales tool has always struck me as kind of whorish and perverts the underlying reason most people use forums in the first place. For years most m...

Re: Screws for a Microtech Makora?

It's ridiculous to make a product with screws you can't tighten. I agree Bill. I would estimate that 2/3rds of all warranty returns we recieve on MT DA/OTF knives is easily remedied by slighly tightening a screw or two. The most common is the screw just in front of or behind the slide ramp. If it's...

Re: did microtech copy mikov or vis versa?

MT pretty mercilously copied the FORM of the Mikov but the internals are VERY different. Whether the MT design is better, especially so much better to justify the price, is an individual call. For years we have refused to sell knockoffs on basic principle. We are rethinking that policy as far as MT ...

Re: If you had a thousand dollars to spend

One time in Vegas there was this awesomely hot hooker that was getting $1200 for a roll. $1200 was WAY beyond reasonable but if I had $1K to burn then it would be only a $200 difference. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. I better find her # just in case.

Re: Screws for a Microtech Makora?

Microtech is a major pain when it comes to parts. They just will NOT send them. I used to think they were just being difficult then I leaned that they change tiny tings so often that a single model of knife has been through several incarnations with silly inconsequential changes made in screw size, ...

Re: Social media vs knife forums

I don't understand the appeal of twitter. Never have, never will. " i farted", "i'm eating soup", "i'm listening to weazer". "who gives a flying f....." . Facebook and other social sites allow you to find family and friends, converse, share photos and videos, etc. I get that but it is not subject sp...

Re: Social media vs knife forums

I've wondered if Facebook and like venues are taking traffic from forums. I realize peoples interests wax and wane and, as Bill said, people come and go but it seems like, in general, forum traffic has dropped off over the past couple of years.

Re: Social media vs knife forums

I agree that peoples interests in things waxes and wanes but it seems more systemic and wide spread. Most knife forums were a hotbed of conversation a few years ago. Now I log on and there are few new posts. A few forums that were very hot 2 years ago now get so little traffic that I only visit them...

Re: Social media vs knife forums

I've noticed that too but many knife forums have been ghost towns even through the winter months. Much less consistent participation than 3-4 years ago.
