Re: latama kris blade
It is indeed a Latama. Perhaps it was an early one- before the patent was issued. Less likely is that it just didn't get stamped..

Same process as above. Get it shaped, harden, and temper.

Re: The "Payback."
I haven't even unboxed it yet. Started clearing a space for it in the shop, but still have to learn how to use it and what it will/won't do.
This one is a diode laser-sort of between a CO2 and a fiber laser. It will do some metal engraving. If I get it figured out, I'll probably get a fiber laser.

Re: Coil spring straightening
I thought you were talking about little coil springs, like used in knives.

Re: Coil spring straightening
It can be done. Unfortunately, small coil springs are too thin to reliably heat treat without a heat treat oven. The steel heats and cools too fast without a controlled atmosphere and even heating is a problem. In theory, if the spring is common high carbon steel- heat to cherry red and quench in wa...

Re: Coil spring straightening
Unless you can properly heat treat the spring, the answer is "no."
And, from your question, I can tell you can't properly heat treat the spring.

Re: Switchblade Identification help INOX
It's not a switchblade if it doesn't work. The knife may be worth more than the added repair cost, and it will sell quicker if it works. Here is an example of pricing. There may be additional problems encountered during the repair-such as blade tip peeking/sear repair becoming evident after spring i...

The "Payback."
I have found some very nice, well made knives that are made in China.
I'm thinking about ordering them in quantity, laser marking them "PAYBACK by Bill DeShivs"- and selling them.
What do you guys think? Not only would I be appropriating their design, but they would be manufacturing them for me!
