Would we be better off considering an American maker, such as Ashville Steel/Paragon? Not sure how receptive an American maker would be to a small custom production run, but it would seem to avoid a lot of the problems we just encountered if they would.

For what it's worth, I've purchased from PVK on a number of occassions and never had a problem.

Hey, thx for the picture. What I did was print a copy and then I glued it to the handle of an old toothbrush and put it in the display case with my other classic Italians. When viewed at a distance, without my glasses, it don't look half bad!!!

It's the CAPO pictured on KnifeShops website (see the good guys list). It's the one with the cutout at the top of the blade.
I've also got the Ladya model by CAPO as well as one of the Russian stillettos and a Russian leverlock called the Sniper. Heavy, no nonesense, industrial grade knives.
