Re: Looking for information on this gravity knife

Nor have I ever seen a Gebruder of this type.
If you want to remove the button spring, you have to remove the button by driving out the button pin. Trying to do so otherwise will ruin the spring, and you can't get a new spring in unless the button is removed.

Re: MOP

I think it will make the pearl oily, but do nothing else.
Wax might help, as might Simichrome.
It all depends on the surface texture of the pearl. Ideally, it should be glass smooth.

Re: Bugs

Only once have I seen a live larva in a handle.
I have seen many shed casings left in handles, though.

Re: MOP

Sand to 600+ grit and buff with green or white rouge. Don't get it too hot.

Speaking of bowies-

I have wanted one of these since I was 16 years old. I started looking on Ebay and immediately found a nice one. Bid pretty high on it, but lost it. I had seen another Anton Wingen bowie there that looked strange. Upon closer inspection, it was the same style knife- but the guard was missing! So, I ...

Re: Cool old Bowie knife

I have been getting back into bowie knives lately. Just bought a couple of German bowies, and I actually bought one from Pakistan!
None have arrived yet.

Re: German gravity knife

The US issued Presto and Schrade Cut Co. autos during WW2. Both were the same pattern. After WW2 until around 1956, the US used Schrade-Walden knives of the same basic pattern, with a black plastic, jigged handle. Then, the orange MC-1 was issued. The original MC-1 was produced by Schrade-Walden, an...

Re: Italy vs China Stiletto Seitchblade

Never assume anything about knives!
In general, Italian knives don't use wire springs. Some have steel liners.
If in doubt, ask here.

Re: Question about a Latama picklock my antique shop found

Your button return spring is broken.
The vegetable oil you soaked the knife in will thicken and go rancid. Buy a can of WD 40 and use it to blow out as much of the oil as you can.

Re: Latama MOP 28cm

The pearl on the new Latamas is a laminated pearl-which is pretty resistant to cracking.
